Historical data depicted in these plots are from various sources: California Data Exchange Center, USGS National Water Information System, WA Department of Ecology, EPA STORET, and StreamNet. Attempts were made to fit two sinusoidal curves through the data. One with 6 parameters and the other with 3 parameters. The non-linear solver function in the software package R (2.11.1 and later) was used for this purpose. The intention of the 6 parameter model is to allow for spring-time snowmelt effects on the temperature profile to be recognized where appropriate. However, not all of the streams have snowmelt contributions and many have significant anthropogenic influences. Click here for details on the 6 parameter model. It has been used to model temperatures in select streams.
